The role and responsibilities
The Atkins Software Assurance team specialises in consultancy, verification and testing of software and programmable hardware used in safety-critical systems. Due to increased demand from clients across many industry sectors including Nuclear Power, Rail, Defence and Aerospace we are looking to recruit a Senior Consultant whose responsibilities will include:
Crafting technical solutions for key software projects in safety and mission critical industries
Providing technical consultancy to key clients
Providing technical leadership to Atkins project teams
Supporting the sales process through development of opportunities and contributing to proposal writing
Additionally there is potentially a role to line managing a team, with responsibilities including setting and review of performance and development objectives and mentoring staff.

This is a technical role that would suit an engineer with solid experience of working with software or programmable hardware systems. We are looking for an experienced engineer with the skills, personality and experience to set the technical direction for projects.
Experience of working with software-based systems in safety or mission critical industries
Experience of software safety standards such as IEC 61508, DEF STAN 00-55, RTCA/DO-178B/C, ISO 26262, EN 50128, IEC 60880 and IEC 62566
Experience of programmable hardware (FPGAs or ASICs) and Hardware Description Languages such as Verilog and VHDL
Experience of high level programming languages such as C and Ada
Experience of compilers and assembler languages
Experience of static and formal software analysis techniques and tools (such as MALPAS, SPARK, Polyspace, etc.)
Minimum first degree (or equivalent) in a numerical discipline with a significant software engineering element
Some work outside normal office hours may be necessary. Travel to and from client sites and/or temporary secondment to clients offices may also be required. Secondments to other offices in the UK or overseas may be available.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo a security vetting process and offers of employment will be subject to relevant security clearance being granted
