This role is suited to a multi-skilled Automation Engineer with strong electrical design capability and hands-on experience supporting machines through PLC commissioning to final installation at customer sites. The position requires close collaboration with internal departments and direct communication with customers to ensure successful project delivery. The role includes intermittent international travel to support machine installations and assist end users with upgrades and commissioning activities.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop electrical control systems and automation software for special purpose machinery
Carry out electrical design studies, reviews, and prepare technical specifications for bespoke applications
Produce and complete Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) documentation and maintain accurate as-built electrical documentation
Support engineering queries and resolve manufacturing or quality-related issues as required
Perform on-site installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities at customer premises worldwide
Work closely with Service and Aftercare teams during site visits and post-installation support
Travel internationally approximately 4-5 times per year, typically for one-week durations
Skills and ExperienceEssential
Proven experience designing electrical control systems for special purpose machinery
Experience compiling Bills of Materials (BOMs) and completing MRP uploads
Strong knowledge of machine safety equipment and relevant safety standards
PLC programming experience using Siemens and/or Allen Bradley platforms
Experience commissioning machines in line with FAT protocols
Ability to provide remote programming and technical support
Experience working directly with end users to define functionality, interfaces, and system requirements
