Interim Head of IT - Leicester (Hybrid, 3 days/week) 6 months contract c£450/day inside IR35

Run IT. Lead the team. Keep the lights on and the systems tight, while helping shape what comes next.

An established UK organisation is looking for a hands-on Interim Head of IT to take charge of its technology function during a period of change. You'll be the senior point of accountability for IT service delivery, leading a small ServiceDesk team while staying close to the tools and systems yourself; this isn't a role where you sit above the detail.

You'll report directly to the CIO, run day-to-day operations, manage key suppliers, and give clear, practical input into how the IT function should be structured going forward.

What you'll be doing:

• Leading a structured handover and building a clear picture of systems, suppliers, contracts and licences
• Managing and developing an IT ServiceDesk team of two
• Owning day-to-day IT operations: incidents, service requests, changes and problem management
• Staying hands-on across Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Windows Server and networking
• Overseeing identity and endpoint tools including Entra ID, Intune and Cynet
• Driving cyber security, patching and vulnerability remediation, and supporting ISO27001 and Cyber Essentials renewals
• Managing supplier relationships and holding partners to account on performance
• Delivering monthly reporting and a live operational/cyber dashboard to the CIO

What you'll bring:

• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, ideally including cloud migration work
• Microsoft 365 administration and support experience
• Familiarity with Entra ID, Intune, Defender or similar endpoint security tools
• Solid Windows Server experience
• A track record of leading IT support or ServiceDesk teams in a small or mid-sized organisation
• Confidence managing suppliers, budgets and stakeholders without hand-holding
• A calm, practical, get-it-done approach; this is a role for someone who thrives in a lean team

You won't need to be strong on every point above. A leader with less recent hands-on depth but a strong operational and team leadership track record is just as welcome as a hands-on technologist stepping up into a leadership-heavy interim role.

The details:

• Interim contract, initial handover period within the first month
• Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours, hybrid with a minimum of three days a week in the Leicester office
• Occasional out-of-hours work during major incidents or upgrades
• Scope may flex as the organisation reviews its future IT structure
