Senior Database Engineer
Salary: Up to £65,000
Location: Bradford - Hybrid (2 days a week on-site)

My client is looking for an experienced Senior Database Engineer to join its Technology & Transformation team.
This is a hands-on role combining Database Administration (DBA) and ETL development, with responsibility for supporting and improving the clients database and data integration environments.
With a programme of database upgrades approaching, they re looking for a senior engineer who can take ownership of technical problems, make pragmatic decisions and drive issues through to resolution without requiring close supervision.
The core environment includes Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS and Teradata, with the organisation expected to move increasingly towards Microsoft Fabric in the future.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer, monitor and maintain SQL Server and Teradata database environments.
  • Support upcoming database upgrades, patching and migrations.
  • Develop, maintain and troubleshoot ETL/ELT solutions using SSIS and SQL/T-SQL.
  • Monitor and optimise database and ETL performance.
  • Investigate and resolve database, data integration and production issues.
  • Support backup, recovery, resilience and database security.
  • Take ownership of technical incidents and drive them through to resolution.
  • Contribute to the future modernisation of the data platform, including Microsoft Fabric.
Essential Experience
  • Strong hands-on SQL Server DBA experience.
  • Strong SSIS and ETL development experience.
  • Teradata experience - particularly within a development, DBA or enterprise data warehouse environment.
  • Strong SQL/T-SQL skills.
  • Experience supporting database upgrades and production database environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and performance optimisation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex technical problems.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience with other large-scale enterprise or MPP database platforms.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Fabric and/or the wider Azure data ecosystem.
  • Experience with database migrations and data platform modernisation.
We re looking for a senior, self-sufficient engineer who can quickly understand a problem, determine the right course of action and get it resolved.
you'll be comfortable taking ownership, working autonomously and making pragmatic technical decisions without becoming bogged down or requiring significant hand-holding.
