Senior PLC Software Engineer Location: Dungannon, Co. Tyrone
Job Type: Permanent Full-Time Office-Based
Salary: up to 60k Are you an experienced PLC Software Engineer with a passion for automation, embedded control systems and innovative vehicle technology? Total Care Recruitment is recruiting a Senior PLC Software Engineer for an established engineering and manufacturing company based in County Tyrone. This is an exciting opportunity to develop sophisticated control systems for specialist vehicles and machinery, including electric and hybrid technologies. The Role Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will develop, integrate and validate software and control systems for advanced vehicle applications. Key responsibilities include: -
Developing PLC and embedded control software using platforms such as CoDeSys and Danfoss PLUS+1. -
Translating functional requirements into software specifications and control architectures. -
Designing and integrating control systems for electric, hybrid and conventional vehicle technologies. -
Developing software for ECUs, motors, drives, actuators, sensors and energy storage systems. -
Working with CAN-based communication protocols, including SAE J1939. -
Supporting diagnostics, remote monitoring and system integration. -
Conducting software validation, fault-finding and vehicle-level testing. -
Performing Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing. -
Supporting prototype development and commissioning. -
Maintaining high standards of software documentation, functional safety and design verification. What We're Looking For -
Degree in Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. -
Minimum 5 years' experience in embedded software development or systems engineering within automotive, vehicle or off-highway equipment sectors. -
Strong experience with CoDeSys, MATLAB, Simulink or Stateflow. -
Knowledge of CAN, CANopen, Ethernet and vehicle communication systems. -
Experience in embedded software integration, testing and validation. -
Understanding of functional safety and structured software development processes. -
Experience with HIL/SIL testing and diagnostic tools such as Vector CANalyzer. -
Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. -
