Solaris is an operating system developed by Sun Microsystems in 1992 based on Unix System V release 4. It's now available for SPARC, and Intel x86 processors (in 32 and 64 bit versions). As well as Sun's own systems, Solaris is supported by Dell, IBM, Intel, HP and Fujitsu Siemens on some of their hardware systems.
