Microsoft's ASP (Active Server Pages) was first launched in the 1990s as part of their IIS Web Server, offering an easy scriptable method of generating dynamic web content. ASP is based on familiar Visual Basic scripting, but the current generation ASP.NET can be programmed in multiple languages, including C#, Visual Basic.NET and others.
